Unhappy 1996 Chrysler Town And Country Lxi 3.8 Shifting, Shaking, Speedometer On The Fritz

I JUST PURCHASED A 1996 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRYLXI 3.8, WITH 94,000 MILES ON IT. NO PROBLEMS AT FIRST, ENGINE SOUNDED GREAT, EVERYTHING WORKED, SHIFTED FINE. ONLY PROBLEM WAS A PULL TO THE LEFT. THEN WHEN I WENT UP HILLS IT WOULD DOWN SHIFT, BUT NOT SHIFT BACK OUT UNTIL I STOPPED THE VAN AND RESTARTED IT.

THEN IT STARTED DOING IT JUST WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THEN AS SOON AS I LEFT THE DRIVEWAY.

WHEN IT WOULD DO THIS THE RPMS WOULD GO UP TO 3, 4, AND 5! THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD WINK OUT AND BOB UP AND DOWN.

THEN IF I WENT OVER 35 IT STARTED SHAKING REAL BAD LIKE I HAD A TIRE LOOSE. AFTER HAVING THE TIRES ROTATED, BALANCED AND NEW LUGNUTS ON IT, IT STILL DID IT!

NOW, I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO FIX. I TOOK IT BACK IN THE VERY BEGINNING WHEN THE DOWN SHIFTING FIRST STARTED, BUT IT DIDN'T DO IT TO THEM (NO HILLS) AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIX WHAT WASN'T BROKEN.

WELL, I AM SURE THAT IT IS BROKEN NOW!

ANY IDEALS OF WHAT IT IS?

the first thing to do is pull out the output speed sensor and see if there is metal stuck to it.If there is the trans will have to come apart. If you went to the dealer this van should have generated a code for output speed sensor error or fault immediately after shift or something

Well, it has been at the dealer's for 3 days now. Apparently their garage couldn't find out what was wrong. So, now they have sent is to a transmission specialist. My guess is they will have to put a new tranny in it, we'll see! Thanks for the reply!
