I'm worried.

I dont have the full functions of ctrl alt del anymore.
Instead of task manager coming up I instead get a box that has my user name, status, etc. and that has no top bar thing, so the only way to exit that box is to use altf4. Aslo that box gives me the option to logoffor disconnect?

WTF??!!!

Re: I'm worried.

In your case, I would do an intensive virus scan for any potential malicious programs altering your system and then if you have something like Norton Systemworks to scan and repair your registry.

If still giving you issues, either your CPU is overheating and going nuts causing issues or Windows may on the decline.

Re: I'm worried.

I have norton antivirus. I'll see if updating then doing a full system scan helps. But it has been like this for months and norton scans weekly on schedule?

Go to www.trendmicro.com

They have a free online virus scan. I run it either once a month or when my computer seems to act a little funny. It's located anything and either fixed it, or I had it delete the files.

Re: I'm worried.

I don't really like your chances on this, since windows operating system is an evolving os (based on microsoft's new concept) chances are the changes could be somewhat permanent. Maybe time for a reinstall/format. But best of lack. If not run some adaware or spybot or something along those lines.

What version of Windows are you running? That is what Ctrl+Alt+Del does in Windows NT/2000/XP. If you're running Windows 95/98/ME then you will get the task manager.

Re: I'm worried.

like polygon said, in 2000/NT/XP if you hit ctrl-alt-delete, you should get a window that displays:

logon information and six buttons:
Lock Computer Log Off Shut down
Change Password Task Manager Cancel

(press task manager for the tast manager (duh), or cancel to get back to the desktop....)

But that's only the case with either a computer on a domain or network or single user. For non-networked Winxp with Multiple users you'll get the taskmanager.

Re: I'm worried.

I agree with Amish_kid. My computers running Windows XP have the Task Manager when I Ctrl-Alt-Del. In my case, though, both machines have a user and admin profile (both admin profiles) along with being on a home network.

Re: I'm worried.

Do a system restore to when you know it was working, then only download updates etc. one at a time and see if any of them make a difference.

Re: I'm worried.

When you have what you want to take a shot of, just mash the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard and then just use the paste function in whatever image program you have. Even MS Paint will work.
