Well about a month ago my automatic tranny in my 94 SL stopped going into gear, it would go into any gear for the first 15-20 seconds after turning the car on and then slip out for good. Of course I was 200 miles past warranty when I took it back to the dealer, and they suggested a tranny flush. They performed it costing me a smooth $200 w/ towing, they said the fluid was black but there were no metal shavings or any signs of damage in the tranny case. After that it shifted normal with no slipping or grinding...now 3 weeks later (and about 400 miles) I've got problems again. When I put it in drive it catches and slips for about 15 seconds (it feels like its slipping off of the gear over and over). Reverse goes right in without hesitation. When driving around 55-60 mph giving it full throttle causes it to slip out of gear and stay out when it tries to downshift to second. But after the first shift into first and when driving normal theres no noticeable problems. The dealer suggested another tranny flush within 1000 miles or a month after they did the first one because the fluid was so bad. I interpreted this as dealership BS and I don't want to spend anymore money on this tranny if i'm gonna need another one. But it's getting worse and worse and it doesn't seem like I need a new transmission b/c all the gears worked normal after the fluid change. Any ideas on what's wrong with it or what I should do?

do the only sensible thing: switch to manual! I have an auto tranny in mine but hate it. Curse you, auto tranny...In all seriousness, if you transmission is going bad, repairing it will only help for a little while. You'll be better off in the long run (esp. come time when these cars are collector's items) you'll want it to be a stick

Well I doubt the SL's will ever be worth much in the future, and I really don't plan to keep it. I just want the tranny fixed so I can sell it, and buy a VR4. I just don't want to spend a ton of money before selling it cuz that would blow.

Re: SL Auto Tranny....It's gonna go!! help!!
I'd contact a reputable tranny shop in your area and ask them what they think the problem is. Dealerships do two things: screw you on the intitial deal, and attempt to screw you everytime you return.

LOL, I hear that, i've been screwed by dealerships enough already, i've been tryin to find somewhere for suggestions, but every place wants me to bring it in so they can look at it for an hour's labor. I'll keep looking though.
