Anyone sell cars for a living?

I'm still in college and I'm kind of feeling around in the job world to see what I like and I've been considering car sales. I was hoping some of the car salesmen in here could basically give me a job description. Things such as how you are paid, responsibilities, how you like it, what's expected of you, etc. Thanks.

Well first off, yuor pay is through comission, so depending on how many cars you sell, determines how manymeals a day you get. You have to start from like the bottom, from what I was told at the Mitsubishi dealership where my bro got his eclipse, and then move your way up. I believe in most places to keep your job, you have to sell 5 cars a month or something. Other than that, me no know

You need to be a fucking sleazy, soul-less bottom feeder scumbag with a high school education or less, and a penchant for wearing tacky gold chains, rings and watches. If you fit the bill, have a bad mustache and an even worse suit, youre in buddy!

Appartenly you don't have to know much because our salesmen can't even explain to customers how to operate their damn vehicle. First the salesman can't explain how ABC, ESP, and SBC works (or even what it does), then the damn service writers have their head up their asses too, then I have to waste my time telling the customer the vehicles "problem" is completely normal.

Anways, it looks like a shitty job to me. Imagine being a Mercedes salesman. Having to walk up to an arrogant son of a bitch and kiss his ass in the hope that he buys a car from you. *shudders*

LOL, don't forget the tweed jacket and comb-over

Anyway I didn't exactly sell cars when I was at Fiat, but I mainly overlooked the financial side of the dealership- however COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE ESSENTIAL (obviously) and a customer-service past is also helpful.

Re: Anyone sell cars for a living?

I love it when they act like your a loser if you dont spend 30K on This car... "How can you afford not to buy this car?" Then you see him driving a 91 Geo metro...Whats better is until you buy the car the salesman wont stop calling your phone and after you get it and have a problem no one calls you back and it seems like the salesman fell off the face of the earth.. Its not an honest job...Hence the lack of quality people doing it..

Re: Anyone sell cars for a living?

What's giving me an aneurism is the fact that 91HBSi is wasting time and money in college when all he aspires to be is a below average turdbag...

I realize car salesmen will say "Were just trying to make a living"...but people who screw others for a living are called whores.

...um, no offense to car salesmen in this forum, though...

Before your head explodes, my aspirations are not to be a car salesman.... I never said that. Maybe I should clear things up. I am in college, and since I'm on my own and no one is helping me pay for anything I need some sort of income to pay the bills, while I'm in college. I'll worry about my career when I finish school.

That being said, It would be great if you could refrain from making retarded comments and whoring up this thread. I would also like to know what you do for a living, because you obviously do something better than sell cars.

First thing, I doubt there are any prt-time car salesmen, so I hope you can work it around yuor school schedual. Second, being a car salesman is fine as long as you like what your doing. And any job is a good job, as long as it brings in the cash flow

I would be full-time. I've been going to school full-time at night for a year and a half now, while working full-time during the day. I'm 20, but I'm married and have a house... I'm just trying different things out while I'm still in school just because I have the opprotunity. I am getting a degree in business management or HR management so my degree will pretty much fit into any career path I choose. I'm not planning on being a car salesman for the rest of my life, but I thought it might be kind of fun for a while, and you never know... it could turn into something bigger.

I have a good steady job right now, but it mainly consist of being in an office all day and it gets pretty boring in here.

Lots of things would "be great" sport, but as Buddha said, "life is suffering"- so deal with my retarded, whore-like comments. And since YOU would like to know what I do for a living (despite the fact it is mentioned in my bio and an entire thread devoted solely to this topic) I will gladly tell you. I am a Tropical Botanist...a profession that, in my opinion, IS quite obviously better than selling cars. I suggest you get fitted for that tweed blazer and become a car salesman. Your attitude tells me youre really going to go places, kid.
