Christmas Break Project
Ok so here is the deal, me and my buddy are trying to put one good car together out of three different ones over Christmas Break. These are the cars:
-'91 Civic Standard Hatchback. Motor tired and old. Body is in good shape with no rust. 256K Picked up for $200, motor died on way home after buying car. -'87 Integra Hatch, burns oil, but runs excelent. Body rough and rusty. 267K. Black Valve Cover D16a1. Got for $150 with a brand new set of tires just put on it. Drove 10,000 Miles. -'86 Integra Hatch, Quick and Runs Perfect. 139k. Brown Valve Cover D16a1. Car is so rusted out it is starting to sag in the middle. Body Electrical is starting to fail in rear of car. Got for $350. drove for 25,000 Miles. Ok enough history, here is the plan. Use the Civic for the body. Pull both integra motors and every other logically usuable part of each integra and scrap the bodys. scrap the d15b1 out of the civic after scavaging for parts. Sell Civic 4 spd tranny and one of the integras motor and tranny and whatever else of the integra bodys. Then we plan to do the imposible!!! stick the 139k D16a1 in the civic. We got a welder and a sawalls. I guess we hope to make a working car out of $700 worth of junk cars. A fairly quick Hatch for $700... I like it.Questions: -What ECU?? I asume the integra's will plug into the civic's harness. -What axles?? Use the integra's?? -Which motor mount is going to have to be moved on the civic? -What else are we missing?? I'm just trying to get some idea from you guys before we start doing this swap what we'll need. I'd do some closer looking myself but I'm in Wisconsin and its 20 degrees and snowing, AND dark at 4pm this time of year. __________________________________________________ _____ FOR SALE - After Jan 1st: -DOHC D16a1 - 267k, Burns oil. D16A1 engine wont fit in a ED chassis without new mounts and other mod; but im guessing you can fab something up. Its the bastard of the D-series. I also have no clue what axles but im pretty sure you can make some hybrid ones by using the ED outers and the Integra Inners on the ED shafts(Dont take my word though as I dont know for sure).
The Integra's ECU wont fit in the ED civic because the ED is OBD0, and the Integra uses a vacuum-advance distributor. Youll have to rewire the civic harness to fit the Integra ECU or find a OBD0 distributor thatll fit the D16A1 and use a Si ECU. |

i think the motor will fit in just fine, you just have to use a d series tranny from a ed chassis. and get a obd1 dizzy. and you will have to convert the std to mpfi.

kven is right, but you could use the ecu out of a 88-89 integra ls it will plug-n-play with the civic .
you should be able to use the engine mount on the drivers side then mark the rest. the axles could be made into hybrids i would use the old ones and try then if it works then buy new ones and swap em out |

sell the 86 and 87 teg.
pick up a used block for the civic. problems solved.

fyi the integra's are both LS.
your right about the integra's being very accord like during the gen 1's. I'm acctully begining to think the integra axles may fit, yet i'm not sure though, as the ED civic's have those little ass hubs, like 42 tooth or whatever they are. The 87 is a totally different motor, has a totally differnt dizzy and seems to have more power when you drive it. hence I'm wondering if it is an early 88... thus being OBD0?? oh i know its not going to be blazing fast but the Integra's can keep up within about a car length of my '94 GS-R until about 70mph and then my GS-R takes off. Gap at the end of a 1/2 mile run is about 3 car lengths. Either way the ED is lighter than the Integra so it shouldn't be to bad. And my GS-R runs a 14.9, slow I know, but fast enough to play with. Those old integra's must run a high 15 with a good driver right?

The D16A1 is a direct swap for the 1G CRX's... So, like they said, the motor won't just drop right in...Good luck, though. Keep us posted.

If you can fab up the mounts for the 87 teg motor to fit into the STD then just use the electronics from it (ie. dizzy, ecu, etc.). It may not be that fast but it'll be better than a dpfi d15b2. People bash on the first gen tegs all the time but they keep right up with my CRX most of the time. GL

Or just try to find a cheap 1g CRX. I see them around here dirt cheap, no love for the 1g around here.
