My cruise control has not worked since I bought the car 6 months ago. Curious is there anything I can check to see whats wrong or to get it working w/out bringing it into a shop?

Re: 98 Jetta Cruise Control
Um, most likely it is your VSS, vehicle speed sensor, this went bad on my buddy's trekstar. And he had it replaced as it was still under dealer warranty.

Re: 98 Jetta Cruise Control
The most common problems on Jettas are with the electric/vacuum swithes at the brake & clutch (if applicable) pedals, and with the vaccum hoses that run beside the battery to the cruise control unit on the inner fender well.
