air conditioner

I recently went to a shop for a recharge on my AC.

NO LUCK!

They refilled my coolant system (drained and refilled again) and the air still comes out hot. The fan seems to be working properly, since hot air blows just fine, but just wont turn cold.

Why?

Re: air conditioner

i know this is post is from last year, but i just want to point out the coolant system doesn't run the AC. the AC runs off of R12 or R13a. i don't know if this is a missprint or if the shop changed the wrong fliud. or the compressor could be shot.

Re: air conditioner

I had the same problem with my 1998 SC1. I too recharged the air conditioning system and had no luck getting cool air out of the air conditioning system. At this point, I suspected that the compressor clutch might not be working:

It is actually very easy to tell whether the compressor's clutch is working or not, here's how:

1) Do all of this WITHOUT the engine running (for your safety).
2) The a/c compressor will have one wire connected to it (it's probably green in colour). Disconnect this wire.
3) Fnd a 5 or 6 foot length of roughly the same size wire as the green one. Connect it to the compressor at the place where you removed the green one from.
4 Take the other end of the wire and just touch it to the positive side of the battery (you don't have to hold it on, just touch the positive terminal for a second). If the a/c compressor's clutch is working a loud click will be heard from the compressor. This click is the sound of the clutch engaging.

*If the clutch clicks, then the compressor is most likely working fine and the problem is elsewhere.

Hopefully this helps you out.

Re: air conditioner

I know this is an old post- but any news? My AC went out last summer and I've had the compressor checked, new freon added and checked for leaks and still don't know where the problem is! Help?

Re: air conditioner

this is one of those things that are impossible to tell without seeing the car, but also check the fuses and relays
