power steering vs. altenator

I have a '92 z34 that has had the altenator replaced twice and when I'm driving the charge light will come on after a few miles and engine starts skipping like it is discharging.I also have a power steering leak-don't know if it is in the lines or the reseviour.Could the fluid be getting on the altenator and causing it to go bad or making the belt slip just enough to show a bad altenator.Haven't driven it in awhile and all fluid leaked out,let it run for about 30-40 min. and light never came on ???

Re: power steering vs. altenator

Most likely. In most of the engines I've seen the PS lines run close to the alternator, and a spray could be causing either a slipping belt (though that'd make tons of noise) or a short in the alt. Try tracking down the leak and fixing it, see how that goes.
