Runaway RPM's
98' Duratec, was driving today trying to troubleshoot a hesitation problem and was driving at 40mph, RPM at about 1,500 then I placed the car in neutral (foot off of accelerator) and engine reved up to around 2,600 RPM's and stayed there until I applied brake to decelerate. Is this a failing sensor of some sort (no codes)? Took my Explorer out and did the same procedure and RPM's and engine speed returned to an idol position when I placed trans. in neutral so this confirms that engines shouldn't REV up when placed in neutral. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts?

Re: Runaway RPM's
You may want to disable the torque converter lock up clutch if possible and see if it still happens. If the clutch does not disengage I would suppose it could cause this.
