Crazy Newbie with a Supra project!

Hi everyone. My name is Jeremy Moon, I'm a 19 year old Navy Machinist's Mate Third Class (SailorMoon now makes sense, doesn't it). I've built a few plastic models back in the day with my dad, and moved onto rockets and finally RC airplanes. If you think this hobby is expensive...

Anyway, I wanted to pick up a model to put together to keep me sane and take my mind of the crazy hard school the Navy has me in. Turns out I have a friend who has a birthday coming up in a month, and who loves Supras more than almost anything in the world, and has been looking for a die cast Supra. I thought that there would be no better way to suprise her than to build her a beautiful 1:24 scale Sup. Luckly, I found the Tamiya Supra at my local Longs drug store.

Now that I'm catching up with the hobby, it's getting a little overwhelming. I already knew what basic hard materials I needed, but first model jitters are kinda getting to me. I'm gonna take my time, even if I don't finish it by her b-day. Also, it doesn't help that I'm madly in love with her. So a little drama to help me get started. Just to make everything a little worse, I have no "full scale" (as we say in the RC plane world) car to get to the hobby shop for paints and misc. things I'll need as I go.

As far as the model goes, I'm just gonna do a basic build up, nothing crazy or custom. I really want to do the body in "Quicksilver", which is a stock Toyota color that my friend loves. So I need to track that down too. Hopefully I can get it from an autobody or automotive paint shop fairly easily. I'm gonna pick up a new airbrush (the old pasche is beat down), take a bunch of notes from this forum, and go at it. I really, really want the body to come out well, I think that would be the coolest thing to get a beautiful, shiney, realistic looking paint job. One can only hope.

I'm sure I'll be around asking all kinds of crazy things. If it goes well, I'll make sure to get a thread in the progress forum, and keep you all updated. Until then, happy modeling!

Re: Crazy Newbie with a Supra project!

I will definately be all over the FAQ's and search function, I know how annoying it is to answer the same questions over and over and over.
