Shiloh Ridge - Alto, Texas

Me and some friends went to Shiloh Ridge last weekend. It is a privately owned motor vehicle park located in the very small town of Alto, Texas. Here is their website:

It is a pretty cool place if you are ever in the neighborhood. We had an unusual group of vehicles in our group: my Xterra, 2 Jeeps, a dune buggy, and a 2001 Honda CR 250. The motorcycle was definately an adrenalin rush. Here is a pic of me and my co-pilot, Sundance:

This is a good friend of mines Jeep. It has a ton of mods including a Dana 60 and 14 bolt axles. Unfortunately, he broke his driveshaft, traction bar, and a front hub on one of the hill climbs. He has to much horsepower in my opinion. He is running a Chevy 400 small block.

Finally, this Jeep belongs to me and my brother-in-law. It is a work in progress.

I had the only Xterra at this place. We need to get a group together and storm the place.:smoker2: Everyone seemed impressed at what the Xterra could do. I don't think they were expecting much. I did tow my friends Jeep back to camp. That had to be humiliating for him

Looks like the main past time is coating the trucks in mud.

Are there any tech. hills to climb or is it all about seeing who can get the muddiest?

There are some very steep and techinical hills. My pictures don't do the place justice. I'm told they have a "rock garden", but I didn't see it. I think I only saw about 1/3 of the trails. Their website isn't all that great either. The article from 4 Wheelparts magazine (which I think is on the website) is pretty good. That article is what got me wanting to go there.

The climb my friend broke his driveshaft on was very steep, had a turn half way through it, and was covered with rocks and tree roots. He just about had it licked, but he began rolling backwards and popped his clutch to stop-- instant carnage!

I avoided the mud pits. 38" tires and larger seemed to be the norm out there, and the ruts would have swallowed the Xterra.

You were from the Dallas area weren't you? This place is about half-way between Dallas and Houston. It would be a good place to meet and do some 4 wheeling if you ever get back to Texas.

It is east of Centerville. I'm guessing that it would be about 40 miles east of Centerville. From Houston I normally take 59 north to get there, but I have also gone up I-45 towards Centerville. Then when you get to Maddisonville you take 19 northeast about 60 miles to Alto.
