I have a 1991 Acura Integra LS i am planning on putting a b16a1 in the car using my LS tranny. I am going to be doing this my self because I do not want to pay someone 750 to bolt the motor in and wire it. So I was wondering if I would need to know any thing from experienced Swappers. Like any tricks that would make my life easier. Also I was not really sure about the wiring. I know the B16a ECU plugs right into my harness but there is 4 wires i have to worry about. 3 Wires are for
V-Tec and the other for a 2nd O2 sensor. Not sure what to do with those wires. If any one could help answers my question that would be sweet. |

Re: 88-91 Integra Swap
What year is the B16? It could be an OBD0 and your current engine is a OBD1, If so.. then just get an OBD1 ECU, or you could probably get a conversion kit. On my B16 i didn't even hook up the 2nd O2 sensor. I know there are 3 wires for the VTEC and there is also a wire for the knock sensor. Other than the wires the engine bolts right in. You will need a longer hose, for the hose that goes from the top of the radiator to the engine. You might be able to make your old hose work...Will you be using your B18 engine harness?? It might also make your life easier if you switched your fuel injectors from your b18 to the b16. I had to do this because my wiring harness would not plug into the B16 injectors. I also used my B18 distributor on my B16 as well because my B16 distributor was crap. A lot of stuff depends on wheather or not you will be using your old wiring harness or not.

Re: 88-91 Integra Swap
I did not get the engine yet I am waiting to order it because I have to wait to use my buddies garage. I was unaware that my ECU was obd1 I thought it was obd0. I planned on using my wiring harness on the integra to hook up the motor. Because I was told that the harness were cut on the jdm motors. I hope this helps you help me.

Re: 88-91 Integra Swap
You will be able to use your wiring harness. It is pretty easy to make it work. Running the wires are no problem either. As soon as you know where to hook them up it would only take a few minutes. It took me like 8 minutes to run the wires and hook it. you are gonna need the pins that hook into your plugs for the ECU. I think they are called molex pins?? if you can't get any. I have some I could mail to you.

Re: 88-91 Integra Swap
Heres a question, how hard was it to pull the motor and put the b16 in. And what was your method of pulling the motor.

Im pretty sure your car is OBD0, and easiest way I know of, is to use the engine hoist, support the engine, unbolt everythign and lower engine to the ground on any blocks needed just to keep it form tipping, then jack the car up and pull engine out under bumper, push new engine back under, and lower car over it, hoist engine into place and bolt up, hoisting it out is another easy way, never did it this eway on my integra, but on my civic, I had a hell of a time gettign the trans mounts to clear each other for some reason. I didnt have the leveler on the hoist which probably would have helped alot, also maybe putting the top transmount on when the eng/trans combo is under the mount might be better also.

Re: 88-91 Integra Swap
I Know i am just going to have to pull the motor out of the engine bay with a cherry picker. i thought my car was obd0 but didn't know for sure. i plan on using my tranny that is in the car now with the b16. do i bolt the tranny on the motor and try to put it in or do i put them in separate. i know some things to do, from what i read and what I was told, but I really don't know specifics ya know.

Re: 88-91 Integra Swap
If your car is an OBD0 then it will be even easier. I pulled my engine out from the top. Tranny and all. I put the B16 in the same way.

Re: 88-91 Integra Swap
yes, bolt the tranny to your engine and drop the setup in, I did mine engine then trans cuz I was doing it by myself with no engine hoist, so I had to raise the car, slide engine under, and then do a combo of jackl engine up, lower xcar down and would have been trouble with everything under there, then when I had the engine in, I just slid the trans under, layed on the valve cover and grabbed the trans and pullede it up and aligned it, then bolted it together. usewd a picker on my civic so I was never sup[porting the weight of anything muyself, so you got alot more time to align things and mess with the clearance of mounts on the way in, if you just take your time and think about what you are doing the whole time you'll have no problems, its pretty easy.
