I ran into some money! OH OH IT HURTS
I'm bidding on a baisically refurbished 240 fastback from texas (no rust) for my first project. Thats right!
I will accually be working on my OWN 240 now, instead of the preformance shop work, bah. Now I have some questions. I want to build a silvia, but I can't find a coupe. I have however found a beautiful MINT MINT MINT fastback. I also recently ran into some money. So I'm pretty much just deciding on what motor I should get. Psh, duh, I gotta stop calling them motors, just something my dad always said. Anyway. I would like to stay traditional with the car, and get maybe a CA18. What I REALLY wanted to to get a coupe, SR20, JDM front, blah blah blah, have a JDM spec silvia. And then build up an RB25 fastback. So fuck the bullshit, here's my real questions: What octane fuel do the RB25s, SR20s, and CA18s run on in japan. I know the RBs are like 110 or something.. SRs I think are 98. CA I have no idea on. Can someone confirm some facts? Also, what has to be done to the firewall to convert to right hand drive? Are the holes there, do they have to be punched out, or do I have to cut them completely? (And yes I know how weird shifting with the other hand is, I drove my friends JDM honda, I like it much better, being i like steering primarily with my right hand.) |

Re: I ran into some money! OH OH IT HURTS
y does it matter what the japanese use for octane? you're in america. so...just go with 93 octane if you get one of those jdm engines.
from a purely speculative pov, i would imagine you'd have to take out the firewall completely and replace it with a jdm one. either that or cut a hole for the steering column on the right side. anyway, don't get overly ambitious. you're still bidding, which is different from buying the car. |

Umm.. You're stupid? If you use too low of a grade of gas, you will get detonation. Like we have regular, plus, and super, the japanese do too... only they go higher octanes that are illegal here. And like here, certain high preformance cars need high octane gas to run right, they require octane levels not easily available stateside. And obviously you mustave never seen a firewall, cause its not something that pops out, or you can undo some bolts to. It's a structural part of the car, and requires some heavy work to swap. And I'll be ambitious as I want, now that I've not only finnally saved enough to buy whatever 240 I might want, and also unexpectedly just got enough money to buy whatever engine I'd like. Just go with 93 octane... hah. Cause this is america! dope. (Maybe if it runs on 98.. but, otherwise. Yeah.... Dope.) |

Some sunoco gas stations I have seen here in Florida have 98 octane racing fuel. If you can't find any, get some at a racetrack. Good luck.

Re: I ran into some money! OH OH IT HURTS
OK..... JAPANESE OCTANE LEVELS DON'T MATTER AS ALL THESE COMPUTERS HAVE OCTANE ADJUSTMENTS, IT'LL ADJUST TO WHATEVER YOU PUT IN IT AS LONG AS YOU RESET THE ECU.
HIGH OCTANE GAS ISN'T ILLEGAL IN ANYWAY, IN FACT YOU BETTER OFF RUNNING 116 OCTANE WHEN GOING THROUGH EMISSIONS RATHER THAN 91 OR 93. RHD CONVERSION YOU CAN DO AS SAIKOU240 SAID AND CUT OUT THE FIREWALL AND RE-WELD IN THE JDM ONE (AKA THE CAMERON(NIGHT7RACING) CRAPTASTIC METHOD) OR YOU CAN DO LIKE MY FRIENDS AT WWW.FUELEDPERFORMANCE.COM AND BUILD A NEW FIREWALL AND WELD IT IN PLACE OVER THE OLD WALL AND CUT OUT YOUR HOLES. SERIOUSLY DON'T GET SNAPPY WITH PEOPLE HERE IF YOU EXPECT HELP.... THERE IS ALOT OF KNOWLEDGE ON THIS BOARD ALONG WITH THE OTHERS AND NO ONE ENJOYS BEING CALLED STUPID. HAVE FUN AND TAKE LOTS OF PICS NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. |

Octane Boosters Work.... But You Can Get Greater Effects With Adding Toluene Or Denatured Alchol.

Octane boosters work... they increase your level by .1 but they don't mix well with gas so you'll have "octane pockets" which won't be too good for your engine. Go with what musicsurfman said and use toluene. It's a common additive for people that make their own 100 octane from 91(Cali)/93(Anywhere else). Do a google search and you'll be able to find the exact formula/ratio.
Also, the other countries may seem like they use higher octane, but it's not that much greater because of the way that they measure octane, which is different from us. |

Re: I ran into some money! OH OH IT HURTS
Japan Uses Much Higher Octane Than Us.
We Use A Octane Rating Of The Average Between The Two Measurements (mon And Ron). We Are The Middle Grade Of The World, Japan Is The High Grade, And Most Of Europe Is The Low Grade. |

Most contries measure octane in RON. The United States uses the anti-knock index (AKI) which is (MON + RON) / 2. The MON and RON numbers are measures of how much you can compress the fuel before it combusts(with no spark). One is under heavy load and the other is under light load. RON is higher than MON and hence higher than the AKI. The reason you see fuel in Europe and Japan with 95-100+ octane is because they only use the RON rating instead of averaging it with the MON rating.

Re: I ran into some money! OH OH IT HURTS
here in san diego gas prices are soaring high sky, its really hard on my pocket to keep putting 91 octane on my car. it costs almost 2.55/gal for it.
Now do u mix ur own gas to 100? |
