A/FX Mustang

I figured I would get started on my 2005 project/s early, even though I will be away for better part of the rest of the month.
If there is one car that is totaly sweet, all Mopars aside, it is the A/FX Mustangs. I have done a few in 1/25th scale, all were lost in a fire that consumed my workshop, luckily the molds were not up there at the time and I am still able to cast them. I wanted to do something a bit different this time. When a friend slipped me a 1/12th GT350 in return for some casting I did, I knew I had to cut that pony up.
Most of the major alterations are done concerning the wheelwells and the quarter windows were closed up. Some minor tweeking here and there and I should be ready for a skim coat of putty and some primer to see how well I did on the plastic work. Then on to reshaping the nose, tail panel, panel lines on the sides and extending the hood.
Chassis will be done using an album full of photos and a notebook filled with measurements I did many years ago when I had a chance to get really close and personal with Phil Bonners Daddy Warbucks. No 427 Cammer in 1/12th scale you say, well not yet, at least. The only kit part being used is the body, all else will have to be made for the car. Kind of a shame, I guess I will have to ebay another body to do the rest of the kit. Maybe the Larson Ford Mustang.
To go along with the 1/12th, I will also be doing another 1/25th ( On top of the 1/12 ) and to top it all off, a 1/64th AWB.

I am loving this....an old drag car,and in 1/12 scale...Oh yea!! Check ebay for a 1/12 scale Mean Maverick funny car,lots of possible parts on one of those.

Nice...Id be to shi scared of rooting a 1/12 kit if i atempted something like this. But its not me doing it. So i wanna see more!!!

Thanks for the comments so far. I haven't seen the Mean Maverick, I'm sure it would have a Hemi in it, maybe the wheels and tires would work.
Did some reshaping on the nose, rear quarters and enlarged the wheel wells a bit more, nothing worthy of pictures yet. Dimensions for the block and heads are on paper, so the carving will start once I get the body a bit closer to the final shape.

I found an old Mean Maverick on Ebay several months ago. I bought it for parts. Here are some pics of the wheels and tires and the blown 427 SOHC engine.

Now we are talking. I guess I will put my original plans on hold and see if I can find one of those. Hope it wasn't too much, but then again.

Just a quick update after I took some more measurements and found out the looks of the front end were indeed too thick. I needed to remove 0.12" between the top portion of the fenders to unfatten it ( if that is a word ), which in the second picture I think it does, even thought my flash is working extra good tonight. It is just tacked together so I can check the measurements before welding it all together. Also in the first picture you can see the door has not been cut yet,just to give an idea of how much was taken out. Once I get it all back together, I think I will move the front wheel wells forward a bit more, since I did not take in to account the plastic that was removed in the first cut. Measure once, cut twice.
Will be gone this week, but I would still like to hear comments, since I will still have access, I just won't have any progress.

Wow! This is amazing! What brand is the kit? I'd love a 1/12 '66 Mustang!

Thanks Rob. The kit is the Revell Shelby GT 350, pretty common on ebay. Seems to be a nicely done one, but with a few minor glitches in the body dimensions, and lots of sink marks.
Well, I'm off to Jersey tomorrow, should be back on Monday. Things to look forward to next week are, put the front end back together, finish shaping the nose, lenghten the hood, deepen the scallops on the sides of the body, reshape the trunklid and rear bumper area. Got a lot to look forward to.
