Passat Loosing Revs

Ok, Not my car, potential father in laws.... so if anyone can help me out I may get some brownie points!

1998 VW Passat (R reg). 1.8 Turbo Petrol.

When cruising on the motorway around 80mph on a trip to scotland, the car would intermittantly loose revs for a few seconds (seriously) then he would intervene by applying the clutch - the car would recover and run fine again.

Does this sound like a problem other people have experienced?

thanks

Re: Passat Loosing Revs

It could be a number of faults. The best thing to do is have the engine scanned for diagnostic codes.
