Here's what i would do........Get yourself a good flowmaster setup and add the K&N intake system. Total cost will run you around 500 to 600 bucks. You will get a good 30 horses at the least out of this which looks pretty tasty for a TA don't it?

Hooker makes a real nice set of SuperComps for this car. We just did a comp valve job/port on a '99 SS. The results were quite dramatic. Add a Comp XE cam and an LS6 intake, and you'll be rockin'! Don't bother with brand X stuff. The headers need to be "full length" to make the change worthwhile. "Shorties" are easier to insall, but not much. The gains aren't there.

flowmaster is good i have it on my t/a im doing headers next with the off road y pipe, and its high flow cats . there are 2 different things you mentioned there a mass air flow sensor tells the engine how much air is coming in and a throttle body is what opens up to let the air in.those will run you about 650 for both

here ya go...in order for power per $$$
(stay away from a MAF and a Throttle Body. If you want to get maf ends, fine, but I still think they're not really worth the $$$).

1. Lid
2. Cutout
3. Headers/ypipe
4. gears
5. torque converter/clutch
6. cam/heads/intake(Z06/LSX) or Force induction the bish! (Bower/Turbo/Nitrous).

Obviously custom programming will help(not hypercrap or any of the plug and play "programming" stuff).

have fun.

first off i would like to say dont listen to squirrel or fat tom. Flowmaster is true muscle sound all the way.not only does it add power and a great sound it also gives better gas mileage. If your looking for a good set of headers for your car look in JEGS. They have alot of good set ups for the trans ams (be prepared to spend some big dough on a get set up). the MAFTB may be expensive but they are worth having when you start adding bolt ons to your car.

Secondly, don't ever listen to z06 or squirrel nuts b\c all they do is bitch about eachother. They're just little babies that only know how to cuss. Squirrel nuts, your probably the worst. To answer the REAL question..... flowmaster IMO is probably the best "muscle car sound" exhaust system. I dunno, it has got a nice, full, deep tone that fits the TA image. To tell you the truth, i would say that flowmasters were made 4 the TA b\c they fit soo well together. Not to mention they are the #1 selling exhaust system on any vehicle

Death....flowmasters do sound great...but out of all the other catbacks, they are the lowest on the pole as far as increasing horsepower(if not go backwards). I wouldn't bother with a maf or tb. not worth the $$ for the 'increased' power. LS1s already come with a 72mm TB. more then enough. Most heads/cam guys don't need a bigger TB and I know I don't(and I was pushing the 430rwhp mark before the new pullies/injectors/tune).

i know it doesnt really add more power but it sounds so beautiful that it mistakes me into thinking im getting more power (i think the better gas mileage makes up for power loss in the wrong run considering the numbers arn't that great of a loss). ive got an 81 TA with true dual equiped with 40 seires and i could sit there all day and listen to that beautiful sound (soon to have true dual on my 85 TA as well with american thunder mufflers ) and the great thing is having headers makes it so much sweeter sounding.

MAYBE FLOWMASTER SUCKS ON YOUR SIXER BUT ITS DOING GREAT ON MY V8 FLOWMASTER IS NOT A BAD EXHAUST. SURE IT IS CHEAPER BUT THAT DOESNT MEEN WORSE IT MEENS REASONABLE AND A SMART CHOICE. BORLA IS NICE BUT OVER PRICED AND MOST EXHAUST ARE. SLP LOUDMOUTH IS PRETTY GOOD IF YOU STILL HAVE YOUR CATS ON. THE CATS WILL GIVE IT SOME BACK PRESSURE. BUT ANYTHING FROM THE STOCK SETUP IS GOOD FOR THE CAR. NOTING IS GOING TO HURT IT. GOOD LUCK AND WETHER IM A NEWBIE OR A VET I KNOW MORE THAN SQUIRREL NUTS AND THAT OTHER GUY!

obviously you dont bcause flowmasters have been proven to reduce power, therefore a waste of the money and a worse value than anything else out there because why pay for a power loss??
