death wobble

yes, yet another case of the death wobble. i put a 2" shackle and spacer lift on my jeep complete with shocks and now at about 55 mph i get a slight wobble. any way i figure ethier the alignment is off or my steering stablizer needs to be replaced but i dunno which one to try first.
I also bent one side of my linkage between my axle and sway bar wiether or not that could cause it i dunno.
any input would be apreciated!

Re: death wobble

Unless you installed a dropped pitman arm too, the toe for the front tires has changed, that is the tires are pointing in different directions. Whether or not the wobble is to be fixed, you need an alignment.

Re: death wobble

make sure you get an alignment and that all tie rod ends are not going bad. unbalanced tires will also cause a wobble. you also might want to invest in an adjustable track bar.. cause your tires are now going to be moved more towards the driverside of the vehicle.

Re: death wobble

can my alignment really be that far off with a 2" lift?

As was said before, it may not be so far out of allignment to cause a wobble, but it will be out of allignment with a 2 inch lift. abnormal tire wear might be your only problem. I had a wobble and it was my tie rod ends. Mis-allignment with bad ends would amplify the problem.
Remember... small problems at low speeds are big problems at high speeds.

I had a similar issue with my 99 Cherokee. Started out as a slight wobble at higher speeds, then turned into a full out shake that would scare the hell out of me. It turned out to be the steering stabilizer, which I hear is a common problem with Cherokees. I would start with that, although it be an expensive start.

Re: death wobble

YES! Even just a 2" lilft will cause your alignment to be out. I speak from the simular experience when I lifted my 00 XJ 2" w/rubicon lift. Also, whats this abouta abent linkage. ALL of your linkage must be straight! A dropped pitman arm is only required for 3" or more lift. An adjustable track bar is not a bad idea, all but the lift and my Jeep is stock and rides as good as a Jeep can.
