water pump
My civic dx leaks coolant and overheating. water comes down and I don't know if its the head gasket or the pump itself. I want to know for sure what it is before I start dishing out $$$. it only leaks when the car is running. would the water pump leak in the same place as the head gasket? The leak is showing near the timing belt. HELP!!!!

If it were the pump, I would think that most everything under the timing belt cover would be soaked. But it is possible that the gasket could be leaking right in that area as well.
Look at it this way, you have to take off the timing belt cover to change the head gasket, so take it off, and if the parts are wet, replace the pump. |

Re: water pump
if you have that many miles 80-90 thousand you might as well replace you water pump and timing belt at the same time. i mean if your water pump or timing belt go it can cause some serious problems. my motto better to be safe than sorry.

I know oil eats the rubber that belts are made of (found that out the hard way with a slowly leaking crank seal) and I also know that anti-freeze causes tiny cracks in the rubber that the plug wires are made of. If it's the same rubber, then it is possible that the belt could be weaker now.

It would be your headgasket.Well thats just what i believe. Check your coolant resevore and she if it has some traces of oil in it. That would be a definate sign of a leaking or just plain worn headgasket. This is the same exact thing that happened to my HB. How many miles do you currently own on the car. This problem happeend when i was about 120k
