1973 1303s cuts out when slowing, please help!

Hello, Please help me!!

I have had my dream car a 1973 1303S for almost a year and she has done me proud, unfortunately as i'm a bit of a beginner I don't know as much as I would like, but so far i've managed to get away with asking my Dad, Fiance and Father-in-law to bail me out for the minor difficulties we've encountered. But we've come across a stumper an would love anyone out there in expert-land to point us in the right direction!

She starts lovely, drives like a beauty, until I start to slow down then, usually going from 3rd to 2nd, she just cuts out. The engine just stops but once she has got over this few seconds she starts again and carries on perfectly. As the journey from my house to my Parents involves several roundabouts this is becoming a bit of a danger as other cars obviously dont realise i'm going to stop if theres nothing coming. I would love to get this sorted before something awful happens, so please if anyone has any ideas let me know.

I would start by having the basic tune-up items checked, points, plugs, wires, valve adjustment, carb adjustment, etc....
