clutch/transmission
1991 SL, Won't shift when under power. Will shift when engine off. Starts in gear like the clutch is engaged slightly. All fluid levels appear normal.

Re: clutch/transmission
Either the pressure plate in the clutch is shot, or may be as simple as replacing the clutch master/slave cylinder assembly. Check for fluid leaks at the slave cylinder or at the rod for the master cylinder where it attaches to the clutch pedal inside the car.

Re: clutch/transmission
Will it shift at all when the car is turned on. Like VS said it sounds like a bad master/slave cylinder

I can't put it into gear with engine running, lurches when start in gear and clutch pedal depressed. No adjustment model, no air in system.

Re: clutch/transmission
If you are sure there is no ait in the system then it must be a master/slave cylinder problem. I would bleed the system again and make very sure no air is in the system.

Re: clutch/transmission
Is there a trick to bleeding the release system? I have the same problem and after replacing the master/slave cylinder, it is worse. It feels as though nothing happens in the first 1/4 of the pedal's travel. How do you remove the last bit of air?

Re: clutch/transmission
If you replace the master cylinder, and have no resitance in the first 1/4 of the pedal travel, are you sure the push rod into the master cylinder is not to short. There should be a small amount of play before the rod contacts the master cylinder piston. I have no experience with Saturns in replaceing the clutch master cylinder. I have done several others and the rod from the clucth pedal to the master cylinder is adjutable on all the others I have done Chevy Toyota and Hondas. Check it out

Re: clutch/transmission
The trick to getting the last bit of air is in properly bench bleeding the master cylinder. I held it at an angle and got a few more bubbles out of it. Unfortunatley, that still did not fix my problem. I have great pedal pressure now but I still don't feel like the clutch is releasing all the way. There is no adjustment for the pedal pushrod. There is no adjustment for anything. I pulled up the carpet and removed the foot pad and it helped a little. I'm getting desperate and I'm considering taking a die grinder to the back of the clutch pedal.
