The Vin is on the drivers side of the dash, you can see it outside of the window. The person should be honest and tell you if it's the original engine or not. On older cars like that, unless the person was really anal about cleaning it or not, you should be able to tell if it's the original or not(just by wear and tear). In some cases your better off with it not being original, those TPI's weren't the greatest. Get it to a shop and look underneath of it to see if there's any rust build up on the frame, pinch welds, or floor pan. If there is you dont want to get a car that can't hold up through winter. Body condition is also a factor, and how hard it would be to get panels or paint the car (as needed) are key factors that should be considered. Also have someone check out the suspension and condition of the engine and tranny(for leaks or cracks)

Use good judgement on those older cars, just because they look good on the outside doesn't mean the engine or frame is in top condition. And remember they are selling that car for a reason.
