Question Looking for a new car

I’m looking to replace my GSR with something in the $25k range. I don’t want pure speed and numbers and I want something I can throw around turns and just have a blast with and has 0-60 in less that 7 seconds. My dad has a 91 mr2 and I would love to get something that drives close to that. What do you guys suggest? Also I have a poll of my current choices, pick which one you like and let me know why. My everyday drive is 15 minutes on the freeway one way, and I would also kind of like a road trip car but not sure how much I will do. Also I want the car to last a while.

Re: Looking for a new car

I chose the WRX according to my preferences, but it was a really close decision between the WRX and RSX Type_S. I would shy away from the SRT-4. It's a nice car with some good numbers, but reliability is questionable (it doesn't have a track record to speak of yet).

Between the Acura and Subaru, you should decide on whether you'd rather have AWD or FWD. That would be the decision maker for me.

Good luck with your decision and new car.

I would look at cars like the SRT-4 and the WRX. Or even go looking for a used DSM, Turbo Dodge/Chrysler, Stealth/3000GT, or a Turbo Celica. Any of those would have no problem taking an MR2. I wouldn’t agree that the SRT-4 has no reliability record. Just look at the Turbo Dodges/Chryslers of the 80s and 90s. Chrysler knows how to build a turbo-charged car. They've put turbo-chargers or more cars than just about any other manufacture.

I picked the RSX because it's the best looking car out of all of them. The SRT-4 is just butt ugly, and the WRX is too, well, rally looking, which is good in the rally race, not so good looking on the road in my opinion.

I also think the RSX is the most practical, it's quiet, decent acceleration, not quite as fast, but it's something you can comfortable drive every day and for long distances.

Re: Looking for a new car

i also say get the rsx. i would probably never get a subaru unless it was the sti. and plus, the rsx has the best looks of the three. and to add on to polygon's list, i would say look at a 300zx tt, you could get one in good condition for 15k and get lots of mods.

Is there a thread on here where you haven't recommended the 300ZX in some form or fashion??

Just messing with you man, we all know you love your car, and that's good. Still don't agree with those huge cherry bomb exhaust pipes though, I like to hear my engine, not some sound a big empty cylinder makes, lol.

Re: Looking for a new car

but at least they aren't big fart can mufflers. they have a deep sound to them, i love to listen to it. half the time i keep my music down. but i am going to buy an exhaust system in a month or two and i will get dual-tip mufflers.

Re: Looking for a new car

I love the 300z tt and would get one in a second if I could. but I cant see spending 15k on a 10 year old car and than having to pay for all the repairs

Yah, 15k for a used car is a bit steep. I paid less than $4k for mine, lol.

Well freakonaleash, I guess now that you mention it, it's not those stupid "fart can mufflers." Which is good, but I imagine it does amplify or in some other way alter the actual sound of your engine. My exhausts are high-flow exhausts and big-tube headers on the engine, so I get the full treatment of engine sounds when I drive, which I love, and I know what you mean about the radio, I do that sometimes too.

Yea, i'd definitly have to go with the RSX Type-S. Not the most powerful car in the bunch, but im guessing your not looking for a track car by your discription of how you drive, and the RSX's its reliability is unquestionable. The DOHC i-VTEC is an amazing little engine. It borders on a luxury car, unlike the other cars your comparing it with, and I personally like the looks much more then the others (WRX looks like a frog, and, well... the SRT-4 still looks like a Neon). I personally view it as the best sub-$24,000 car out there. If you wanted a sedan instead, look at the TSX, same engine, 4 doors.

Re: Looking for a new car

Why would you want to replace your GSR with basicly the same thing. I'd get the WRX.

Re: Looking for a new car

I drove all 3 cars today. First I dont see how anyone really likes the srt-4, if you are a large person you cannot sit in the seats. It drives alright and there is power there but it dident even feel as quick as the WRX, that made me sad not saying its a bad car but I just hated it. WRX as always was fun its kinda what im looking at still. RSX is a GREAT car its the GSR but it looks better inside, drives better, more power, more room and just more, But im not sure if I want more of the same and after looking at prices I think I will be happier with the WRX, I will see.

Well at least you narrowed it down to only two choices now.

Your GSR is more powerful than the RSX?
