GS Spyder Milage question

I read through the faqs and didn't see anything on this.

I'm looking to buy a gs spyder (not for racing) in the 96-99 range. I was always told that lower milage is better. I was looking for cars with around 50k on them but can't seem to find many. Alot exist in the 80-100k range. Are there any problems that are common at these higher milage? Do the cars flat out die like crazy say at like 125k or so?

the reason I ask is that it has to last about 6 years and I put on average 13k on my car a year.

Was I brought up wrong thinking that lower milage is any better then higher milage?

I have a '97 GS-T...although it has a totally different motor (the GS has a 2.4L) I thought I would offer my I have had no problems with the vehicle except for minor repairs, such as the driver's side controls for windows/locks broke. Not a hard fix, I just took off the door and fabricated a bracket. Other than that nothing but the normal...brakes, tires, oil, filter, etc. As far as the mileage goes you have to look at it this way....You can find a 92,XXX mileage car, such as mine, that has been meticulously maintained, had all recommended service done on time (and I mean ALL!) and is in near perfect condition. Or you might find a 35,XXX mileage car that has an occasional oil change here or there, never had the plugs/wires, or antifreeze flushed/changed. I think the best bet is to look to see if the customer has any service records, look at the overall condition of the car and go from there. Personally I would rather buy a car with 80,XXX miles and has been maintained than a 40,XXX mile car that has been neglected/abused. But that's just my opinion. Good luck! And as a side note...it took me about 5 months of searching and looking at tons of car to find my spyder (so don't give up!).

im on month 4 now hehe. My goal is to have one before fall. I live in the northeast of the us and it gets really nice out to cruise around then.

I'd go for the gs-t but my insurance would jump a bit more. With a 98 eclipse spyder gs it would be at 3900 a year. With turbo it was an extra 300 bucks. Going from a 93 cavalier that costs 1600 to insure a year is a big change for me.

Ouch! I am in the northeast also...you might want to consider getting a GS-T. If the only thing you are worried about is the extra $300/year for insurance it might be worth waiting. Example: I have a friend, who has since moved out of the area, who owned a GS Spyder. After I got mine I let him drive it, within 2 1/2 months he had sold his and bought a GS-T. Anyway good luck!

i got a Spyder GS-T and i love my car. right now in so-cali it is hitting the 100's in the day, but in the morning on my way to work, or at night when i go home . ST007 is right about maintinence. a properly maintained car will work forever and ever, discounting some kind of catastrophic hardware failure. i have found that if you do look hard enough and you have access to possibly traveling distance to deliver the car, you will be able to find a spyder that was a weekend fun car with low miles and outstanding up-keep.

oh and $25 extra a month for a turbo is more than worth it. i probably lose that much in change every month
