Hello guys, I recently acquired a vanilla (basic model without anything...) 95' Civic CX. And since I'm really not good with cars, I have several questions to ask.
1. I need A/C. Can't live without it due to my allergy. But will this car able to handle it (being 70hp and all)? Also, how much will it cost? 2. If I want a little boost on hp without spending alot, what are the best options? 3. I'm weak, is there anyway to add power steerling to the steerling wheel? (did I mention I'm a complete noob when it comes to cars? )4. I'm also lazy, how much will it cost to add power door and window? 5. I'm dumb(27 and finally decided to get a stickshift so I can drive like a man), is there anyway to add RPM reader? Thanks! |

Re: Noob questions: 95' Civic CX
You can add Intake/header/exhaust for a little more performance or just swap out the engine and get a new one. As for the Tachometer (RPM reader) you can certainly add one of those. OR screw the tach and just listen to her.

1. Maybe junkyard sellss them cheap...Try there. 2. Basic bolt-ons would do. but barely noticable gains. Try swapping in even the ordinary D series engines (D16) for a bit more power. Am sure the D series wont cost that much. 3. I have no clue...But I think you can add power steering. 4. Dont know the cost but its fairly simple to replace it. 5. A lot of performance shop sell tachs...Pep boys have them cheap.

Re: Noob questions: 95' Civic CX
Thanks for the info!
So the CX "should" able to handle A/C right? 70hp isn't going to cause me any problem when A/C is on? Also, I'm not good with cars, so I'm sure I'll need to take it to shops for them to do anything mention above. How much will it cost to swap a D16 series engine in south cali? Tachometer should be easy to install right? |

Re: Noob questions: 95' Civic CX
cause it was cheap
I really didn't want to get another automatic, but for 13k out the door on a 03 Sentra with 62 miles and the QR25DE motor I really couldn't pass it up. It's a nice car that gets me from point a to b while I'm in college. Takes my mind off of modding and keeps me focused on school.

2. Because it's my relative's car. And he can no longer drive it (losing eyesight). I'm kinda helping him on bills and buy his car. 3. Because I'm noob to cars (hence the title: Noob questions) 4. Because I want to learn how to drive stickshift. Buy a good car with stick doesn't seem to be a good idea for me (to learn). 5. Because I'm spoiled with all those extra options (owned 87 Mazada 626 and Nissan Maxima, both has full power everything). 6. Because I'm stupid (I believe this is the answer you're looking for )

Re: Noob questions: 95' Civic CX
I would love to have a stripped down civic. I would have no power nothing. completely gut the thing and make it a track car only. Completly opposite to what you seem to want but those are my hopes and dreams.

If I have another car. I would love to strip down everything, and add as much aftermarket kits I could and try on track. I've seem those on tracks and very impressed with it. But I would have: 1. actually know how to drive stick as good as those guys, and 2. actually have money to do those mods...

Re: Noob questions: 95' Civic CX
Driving stick it not rocket science. It does not take a long time to learn how to drive a manual car. It takes a little longer to learn to drive at the track, its not just slamming gears as you go down the track. its the launch that most people have to work on then its getting every bit out of each gear before you shift.

I know it's not difficult. For now I'm happy to be stuck in traffic without stall my engine.
Back to my original question. I know I'll do a engine swap someday (when I have enough money, damn bills). But I still going to put in AC first. Judging from price/performance/daily driving issue, I'm leaning toward D18B1 engine. So if I put in AC now do I have to change something like AC pump when I do the engine swap? |
