88' 2.4 pickup woes..
I have an 88 nisson pickup with the 2.4 liter (nap z?) that is giving me trouble. I can only press the throttle down 1/4 of the way before it trys to cut out like it's not getting enough fuel. It's a complete cutout then it will cycle to rev up and cutout again, repedely a few times a seccond(like a govenor). Otherwise it runs great if you don't want to take off too fast. I've tested the fuel pressure at an idle and with the peddle to the floor at 40 psi. I don't know what other direction to go.. Could it be my throttle position censor?
Any help would much be appriciated. |

There's a good chance it's water in the tank and fuel filter.

I put a new fuel filter on it the day it acted up. The old one(about 6 months) still looked and flowed great. I talked to somone today that said it could be a backed up catalytic converter, but I don't see how that can be when I can still rev it up so high with the peddle 1/4 down.

hmmm i'm just gussing here, hmmm rather than to much gas maybe your running to rich. take your air filter and try with it open. check your throttle cable and throttle body. see if u can't get an air/fuel mixtrue tester. see if it was gas it would not idle worth a shit, i'm really starting to think it's your air side not gas. good luck

Re: 88' 2.4 pickup woes..
The reason you can still get high revs is that the vehicle is in neutral and not that much demand/stress is put on the fuel system. But the minute you put it in gear it's a whole different storey and the water ih the fuel gets involved.

I had the same problem
it was a cable breakdown to one of the injectors open the connector to the injectors and take the measure on the two white/blue cables you should get 12v. I found my cable breakdown 1" under the connector |
