I just bought a 91 gp se 3.1 L. I took it to Midas Muffler to have it checked out and the Mechanic showed me oil leaking around the upper intake. He said since it's such an old car and with 163k on the engine, that if I could live with checking the oil weeking not to do anything because it cost about 700 bucks to have fixed. Is this an easy job or is it that complicated o cost so much? Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Re: Upper intake leaking oil
No oil passes thru the upper intake, so that's a strange place to see oil leaking. Are you sure he wasn't pointing toward the lower intake (the seam between the intake and the cylinder head) or the valve cover? Another common oil leak on 3.1's is the oil pump drive shaft o-ring. It's basically a distributor with the top cut off that goes down in the center of the "V", drivers side, under the throttle body. It's a fairly simple and cheap fix, the 3 required gaskets cost less than $10 total, and it takes about an hour to change.

Re: Upper intake leaking oil
I would say, without being able to see exactly where it's coming from, that you have a leaky valve cover which is allowing oil to get up on the top of the engine.
