Is the whole column moving or just the wheel?
It may be bad bearings in the column. The column can be rebuilt, but sometimes with the older columns its easier to find an entire column from a wrecking yard and swap it in. It might also be a loose bracket inside the column, too. The Jeep Cherokee section had a thread on this, with a quick fix, from about 6 weeks ago. They use the same type of column |

Re: 87 brougham steering wheel loose
I think its only the bearings in the column. I'll check out the Cherokee section.
Thanks much for you help Elmar |

Re: 87 brougham steering wheel loose
The column probally has 4 bolts that are loose in it. You will have to tear column down a ways to get to bolts. Once there, apply threadlocker to bolts and reinstall bolts.

Re: 87 brougham steering wheel loose
it is a ring around the steering spindle with bearings this comes from using the telescoping wheel as a hoist
