engine swap question

I'm currently rebuilding a 4.6 to throw in my 3.8 thunderbird and was thinking about rebuilding the 3.8 to put in my wife 2.5 ranger, I have a question about the transmission. They are both automatics, what I'm wondering is, in the ranger the gear selector is on the steering column, in the thunderbird its in the center console. Would the rigging for the one currently in the ranger mate up with the thunderbird transmission or does antbody know what I would have to do to make it work. With tearing down and rebuilding the 4.6 I'm learning a lot about engines but I don't know much about tranny's.
