Passlock system bypass

99 Sierra wouldn't start for first time in 60k miles. Security light has been coming on intermittently for 3 years. Think there is now a problem with passlock system. No trouble codes except P0440 have ever been seen on this vehicle. Have read through threads concerning security system and a couple mentioned substituting a resistor of proper value to allow bypassing. Can anyone provide further details. 40 years of bad GM dealership repair work and overcharges makes me sure it would be better to figure out bypass and fix it myself. Thanks for any information.

there is three wires going to your key switch one is black one is yellow and the other is orange or white cut the yellow in half and strip back the black wire ,take the yellow wire from key switch side and wrap the wire through and around the black and that should get you started

Re: Passlock system bypass

There is a much better bypass available through remote start manufacturers. A couple of them don't require the cutting of any wires, although I don't think they work with a key in the ignition. Actually I have never heard of the procedure listed by remotestartes. There are reliable bypass systems out there, check out the forums at www.the12volt.com

Re: Passlock system bypass

I actually had this problem after I had a remote starter installed on my truck. It happened 50% of the time I tilted the steering wheel. Took a long time to troubleshoot.

Re: Passlock system bypass

I work on these systems since I do remote starts for a living. I will tell you that GM has major problems with them. At first they always blamed the RS but there's too many comming in without remote starts with problems.

I have never heard what "remotestarts" said to do inorder to get the vehicle to start. I do not think it would work because there are certain things that have to happen at the right times to let the vehicle start(see link)

As far as using a RS's bypass module to bypass the system sounds great but it will not work either. You have to have a properly working system for the bypass to work. The only fix I know of is to remove the assembly and replace it with new.

Here's a link to what I use to bypass the system. It tells you a little history of how this is suppose to work and also how it's hooked up. http://directed.com/guides/manuals/i...555L_7-02B.pdf
