Tranny Sticking in 2nd

Hey All...the wife just bought a used Sentra XE with about 160000 kms on it. The car is in great shape and the 1.6L DOHC, it purrs like a kitten. The other day she came home and said it got stuck in a gear and was reving high. It did it again today. It shifted fine from first to second, but thendid not shift from second to third. After a minute sitting at idle, at full stop it then shifted normally. She drives like she's racing an F1 car! I think the tranny is getting hot and that causes it to not shift up. It's a 4 speed auto transaxle ( overdrive is selectable via a switch on the gearshift). Anyone have this problem or have any ideas on what's going on. I would have guessed vaccuum but it's got a throttle body.

I forgot to say it's an 91 model sentra xe.

I have a 92 xe doing the same thing wont shift past 2nd. I was told it could be anything from a sensor to internal damage. I plan on taking it to a shop to get a diagnosis to be sure.

If I find out I'll let you know, if you have someone look at yours drop me an update.
