My baby (97 EX 4 door) has a few paint peeling areas on the rear bumper. No structual damage, just looks like a bad paint job. I am thinking of getting it sanded, primed and repainted as it is not a damged item. My local Honda body shop (obviously) told me I should replace the whole thing and paint it. Any recommendations at this point? I'm not too familiar with body work, but I'm pretty sure I've heard about getting it painted at a good body shop, since there should be some special additive for the paint to allow it to flex with the bumper at speed and and prohibit the peeling of the paint again. Also, how much is a reasonable price for this? Thanx in advance.

Re: Repainting a bumper?
I just repainted my rear bumper, as it was hit and cracked in a parking lot. But as for getting a new bumper even though your old one isn't damaged doesn't make sense. Just sand/prime/paint/clear coar and wet sand. Shouldn't matter. If you have peeling paint it also sounds like your car has been repainted before (or maybe just the bumper) and the bumper wasn't sanded down enough. Either way, it sounds as if the dealership is trying to jip you out of the money. I was able to to do the paint job myself as my friend has the guns, large air compressor and the knowledge to help me. All the paint supplies totalled at 80 bucks and the bumper was also 80. All the labor was mine. Since I've never brought my car to a dealership for any work, I can't really tell ya how much they'll charge, but my guess would be too much.
