Question oil pressure problems on my 87 cavy

ok so i just got this POS cavy for free for my summer car. When i first got it, the oil pressure gauge was all the way up, above the markings. It ran fine for a while, untill i had it running on idol for a while then put it in gear, and it stalled. Now, everytime i try to put my car in gear it stalls. Ive replaced a number of things on my car, but i can't figure out why it is happening. The wierd thing is though that when i put the car in gear, the oil pressure gauge goes back to normal, but stalls right after that. Im really confused an i can use all the help and suggestions i can get. Thanks much

Re: oil pressure problems on my 87 cavy

Hmm... Sounds like a screwed up oil pressure cutoff switch. It's made to kill the ignition when oil pressure drops below 3-7 psi to protect the engine.

Yea, but the thing is the pressure doesn't drop below the meter, the pressure is wat to high. Do you think that maybe there is a clog in the oil systme, and if there is, what can i do about it?

I think it is reading alright. Ive never messed with the cable, and i don't see why it would do that. Today I put on a new oil filter and changed the oil again (did it 5 weeks ago) just to see if it help, but, once again, didn't. . . damnit
