Angry Oil Problems

Ok, my car is starting to piss me off. Here's the deal. I put mobil 1 in my car three oil changes ago. I changed it at 5000 miles the first time, no problems. the secind time i put it in i noticed i was loosing oil somewhere. i had to add about a quart b/t oil changes. The third time i put in Mobil 1 i had to put in almost 2 quarts in a 5,000 mile interval. So i decided that maybe my car had too many miles on it to be running synthetic oil and maybe it was leaking past my rings. I just changed my oil a week ago and put in castrol gtx high mileage formula. I had the level perfect when i checked it, i even rechecked it after it ran awhile to make up for the filter. Well today (a week from my oil change) i checked it to see how it was going, and it is almost a quart over the max mark. I think my damn engine is hording the oil away like a hamster and just trying to piss me off. No, but seriously, if anyone has any input it would help.

Re: Oil Problems

Definately sounds odd. Might have blockage somewhere or leaky seals somewhere. When was the last time you checked your oil seals in the motor?

I know the front camshaft seal is notorious for leaking on B-series motors, but I doubt you'll loose that much. Head hasket or oil cap maybe? Notice any leaks coming out there? Maybe one of the main engine seals. How's the oil filter? New? Is it fitting right? What about spark plugs - are they fouled?

How many miles do you have on your car? I've got about 102k and I've been running synthetic without any problems so far. Your car's only a year older than mine.

Just some ideas.

Re: Oil Problems

Yeah, thats the weird thing. I don't have any leaks anywhere. Of course the cam seal leaks, thats a given for B series. But like you said its very minimal. Headgasket and eveything is up to date. Plugs are burning good. I even did a compression and leakdown test not long ago and they were both good. It gets me man.

Re: Oil Problems

I doubt it's burning oil. Have you checked the oil filer? Maybe it didn't seal correctly. Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Might be an internal issue.

As expensive as it might be, I'd have Honda look at it. As a side note, though, the dude who did my oil change at Honda last overfilled my car by about a quart. I had them drain a quart to even it out, and when I checked the oil level the next day or two it was back to being a half-quart over.

Maybe it's a Del Sol thing....?

Re: Oil Problems

Well, i am a technician at Acura, so i might ask some of the guys in the shop. My buddies got the same model and year as mine with 175,000 miles and runs mobil one with no problems. I'll figure it out as soon as i get some more time to take a closer look at it. I am about to rebuild the engine soon anyhow, but thanks for the help.

Re: Oil Problems

No sweat - sorry I wasn't more help than that. Keep us posted on what you find out though. I'm curious myself so would like to know for future reference.

Re: Oil Problems

if it was just low i would say a leak..but it comming back up.. ? drop your oil pan bro..sounds like blockage..the baffle comes out right by the dip tube too so it would make sence..besdies whats 4.00 for a tube of black RTV to seal the oil pan back and 30 mins to drain teh oil and drop it ?? more than worth it to me, cause if it is a buildup then its better cought now before it blockes your return or something
