A somewhat related tidbit... At GOX, I spoke with the rep from Eaton. He said the first app of the Elocker would be a new "extreme 4x4 vehicle" that he couldn't disclose. Well, I finally figured out what it is. H2. (http://www.hummer.com) I can't link to the actual page, the whole site is Flash. In dealerships Summer 2002. According to the info from Eaton, we should see aftermarket apps several months after that. I'm filling my piggy bank.

I think I talked to the same guy at GOXII and he said that they had plans to make an Eaton Locker for the 2002's and forward but not the 2000 & 2001's? Must be a lot of people bugging them about it!

I doubt it. The tire size range hasn't changed significantly, they have no reason to use a different ratio.

Extreme is relative. The H2 is half as "extreme" as the H1.

Guy at GM: Lets put a H1 shell around the new GM HD pickup! No one will ever know! Hell the only people who buy these things are rap stars....

Actually I think it is worse than that. If I remember correctly, the H2 is wrapped around the same Suburban chassis as that wuss mobile the Avalanche. It isn't even a heavy duty pickup, maybe 3/4 ton at best. Still standard GM IFS and straight axle rear. And neither of those axles are worth a hoot for the most part. The front one is made of aluminum and the rear is notorious for wiping out diffs. We've replaced numerous ones at Cadillac (Escalade, same rear and front end). I can't wait to see how they last under diesel torque. Unless they are offering it with new diesel drivetrain. That one is tough. I am willing to bet they had to beef the driveline for that.

122" wheelbase. you don't need to be a mathematician to realize that blows.

The Xterra has.....

External dimensions:
overall length (inches): 178
overall width (inches): 70.4
overall height (inches): 74
ground clearance (inches): 7.9
wheelbase (inches): 104.3
front track (inches): 60
rear track (inches): 59.3
curb to curb turning circle (feet): 35.4

H2.....

overall length (inches): 189.8
overall width (inches): 81.2
overall height (inches): 77.8-82
ground clearance (inches): 9
wheelbase (inches): 122.8
front track (inches): 69.7
rear track (inches): 69.7
nowhere can I find info on turning capabilities, nor what type of steering setup.

An Extreme IFS coilsprung solid rear vehicle... It's a big Liberty!

It will be capable... but not EXTREME. It has alot of really advanced features that will never be used. I bet a locked TLC could do just about everything the H2 could.

To compare vehicles of similar proportions, I bet a locked Ford Superduty would walk all over it.

It is amazing how everyone remembers reading something different. I thought it was on the Tahoe / Yukon chasis with the drivetrain out of a Chevy HD pickup. I believe the HD pickup comes with the full-floater 14 bolt rear axle, which is pretty "extreme." Almost every, rock crawler swaps that axle into their Jeeps.

I don't think it is nearly that big, is it???

Also, the Ford Superduty has swithed from a front Dana 60, to a Dana 50. I have read that that axle sucks for a vehicle of the Superduty's size.

I believe that the F-250 still has a front Dana 50, but the F-350 retains the Dana 60.

The Superdutys all have solid front axles vs. IFS on the H2. Regardless of the strength of the H2 rear axle, the Fords 9" is considered quite strong. You are right though, that Super duty's have a wheelbase of 137", but they actually have a narrower track width. Super dutys also have much smaller approach and departure angles.

I agree completely, I was just quoting what the Eaton rep told me. I believe "wuss-mobile" is an appropriate term.

Its funny, cuz the "H1" (is that what we call it now?) looked cool due to the design that is inspired by the EQUIPMENT (read: geared hubs etc); not because I thought a brick shape made for a nice looking vehicle.

The H2 is trying to capitalize on the look alone (with no real mechanical functional improvements).

Anyone who buys a H2, I'll laugh at (I'll laugh to myself)........definately a lost soul.

Now if we wanna talk good looks with good mechanicals......anybody ever hear of the Jeep Wrangle Rubicon. Oh, baby!

By the way, Eaton, if your reading this thread; sign me up for some lockers.

I'm not trying to start an arguement. I actually don't know much about either vehicle. But, I would bet just about anything that a F-350 doesn't have better approach and departure angle than a Hummer H2. Pickups in general have terrible departure angles because of the bed.
Hell, from photographs I've seen, I suspect that the H2 has better approach and departure angles than the Xterra.
