Is this legal?!

*for the record i live in california*
Is it legal if i put a JDM B16A SIR1 V2 in my 96' Civic HX?
and when i do an engine swap am i suppose to inform anyone? DMV? i don't i have no clue.

No the JDM B16 is not smog legal in California. I am not sure about informing anyone, I dont think you have to but make sure you have papers to prove the engine is not stolen. I am pretty sure in California they are checking VINS on the engine.

You can make a JDM B16 Smog legal but from what I understand its a pretty difficult process...

depends on what year the motor is. If it is a 94' or newer yes, but it must have all US emission control devices. All japanese motors must be the same year or newer as its american counterpart. the first b16 was in the vtec del sol so it has to be the same year as when the b16 first appeared in the US or newer.

Thats the engine thats in my car that wont work for you (i think) because that was in the 92 - 95 SiR-2's.
