220 and 230 isnt overheating. it's a little high but not a huge problem. try bleading the air out of the system

Re: Running to high of a temp
i hear you, i have the same problem....runs at a norm temp of 220 and it gets there kinda quick....i have a 305 tbi with the housing system intake, u know with a 10'' filter....i welded on another intake ontop of the other set of headlights so twice the air goes in....it kept the temp down better, made the car sound nicer and put a bit of performance on it....i just put on a 160temp, a cooling fan switch n an additional cooling fan, but my intake moifold cracked and was in dear need of a replacement so i wasnt able to check things out yet, but ill let u know on where the temperature goes....what kind of camaro do u have? i bet a new chip would help too, thats suppose to help u open up more than what the stock chip regulated, ull notice i huge difference with that....

chip has nothing to do with water temp besides maybe when the fans come on, but if ur's is wired direct it would make no difference

leaks usually, but i somehow doubt it could have bent enough fins to restrict airflow. like i said before, if you havn't already you might try bleading the air out of the system. sometimes theres plugs in the thermostat housing that you can unscrew when the engine is warmed up and blead the air out, otherwise you'll have to get a rag and just slowly unbolt the thermo housing untill it hisses and lets the air out.

Re: Running to high of a temp
is temp your only indicator of overheating??? is the coolant bubbling over? if it is, you can always try a aluminum radiator, have you had a coolant flush yet???? there is a service with an additive that goes through and breaks down the sludge produced by old coolant in the water passages, then flushes it out, and puts new coolant in it. should help a bit. also jegs sells a 40 below additive that coats the water jacket walls and makes it run cooler supposedly. but i would say that with a new thermostat in there, and a new pump, its a blockage somewhere, perhaps you have a clogged radiator rather than a damaged one. i reccomend the coolant system flush as the next step. make sure you specify that you dont want a drain and refill, you actually want the service and flush.

Re: Running to high of a temp
I have to agree w/ my esteemed colleague here, I did the thermostat etc route to no avail... finally took it in for a $75 power-flush, and sure enough when I got it back it was back to normal.

Re: Running to high of a temp
oh, also... a mechanic once told me that there can be almost microscopic damage to a radiator, damage such that one couldn't see or anything, and could only be found out through some tests.

Re: Running to high of a temp
That air damn you busted off helps run cold air to the rad.. Have you replaced it yet? Could be a problem.. Also, try addin' a bottle of Redline synthetic rad fluid.. I love the stuff.. Its called Water Wetter.. You can add it to antifreeze water mix.. But its supposed to run your engine the coolest with straight water only.. *which is not recomended for street and daily drivers..
Also, You shouldnt run a 160 degree thermostat on a stock prom.. Get an aftermarket chip.. Thermomaster by hypertech is probably one of the best.. |
