98 Tahoe 4x4 dash buttons dead

Everything was fine until I tried to switch to 4wd. I lost all power to my 4WD dash switches. All my fuses are good. The service 4WD light popped on. Is there anyway to check for a problem code? Has this happened to anyone else? I could use any help I can get.

Exclamation Mine too!

I have a similar problem with my 98 Tahoe this AM. Used auto FWD last night as the tires are really bad in wet weather now, and it was pouring rain. Worked fine then, and I shifted out before I pulled in the garage. Now today about 5 mi. from home I noticed the service 4wd light came on, and it feels like the truck is shifted into 4wd high. When I am driving slow, especially when I turn on dry pavment it really drags just like it is in 4wd!

The lights on the buttons of the 4wd selectors on my truck have never worked correctly, but it always shifted in/out fine. I tried pressing all the buttons, but it doesn't seem to shift at all now. Am going to put it up on jackstands this afternnon to see what is up under there.

Tsunami451, saw your post in a search here and am wondering if you ever fixed yours or not. Please advise if you have anything that can help pin-point what may be going on here...

Talking Mine's fixed!

I ordered a new switch from gmpartsdirect.com (15027104) for $38.64 total. Was a little disappointed it was special order, took about 8 days to get it...

Man, is that nice to actually see a bright glowing button display that shift though! Funny how you get used to things, and just saying good enough. I should have replaced this a long time ago. I'm sure I would have saved at least $38 on gas and wear and tear from leaving the auto 4wd on by mistake!

Will pop open the old one to do a post-mortum inspection, but I'm sure I will find poorly soldered connections like others have...
