Rear gate window not working 1993

I've searched the Forum and read all the posts about the rear gate window.
The rear gate window on my 93 4 Runner is now inoperable by either key or console switch and stuck about 2 inches from the top.
I hear the motor try to do something with the switch but no motion.
I will pop open the rear gate cover (obviously can't open the door with the window up) and try and find the cause. How do I test for power at the various relays or switches. I have a multitester but no schematic and don't want to fry anything (if that is a possibility).
Anyone been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and care to chime in would be appreciated.

Your window track is probably rusted out and the plastic rollers can't slide or are also worn off. You need to get in the truck and remove the cover to get at the mechanism. You will probably need to replace the tracks. I have done this on a 1988 and have just fixed the rear window on a 1995. Instead of buying expensive parts I welded a new track (a metal bracket I had lying around with the proper size track)to the existing one.

You may have seen my post about removing the motor which is held in place by (3) 8mm screws. Use a mirror to look behind the motor once you have popped the cover off and removed the plastic liner. Use the mirror to examine your track mechanism. Once the motor is removed you can try to operate it with the switch and see if it turns in either direction, if it does then maybe your track system or regulator is offering too much resistance for the motor to overcome. The fix is then obvious.

OK I got the motor out and with the help of WD 40 and then 3 in 1 oil got the sucker spinning in both directions. I reinstalled it and it seemed to work well but after it sat for a while, it was difficult to get thje motor to raise the window the last inch or two. I found that if I pulled the right top of the window outward, it gave enough play to allow the motor to close it completely. I used lithium grease on the gears and a nylon spray lubricant on the tracks as well as the rubber seal around the window. So, the question is, is the motor just too weak? If that is the likely culprit, can I replace just the motor or motor plus that black cylindrical (?)regulator attached to the motor?
Any ideas for sources other than stealership?

How about lubricating the shafts of the regulator and check the tension of coiled spring that is biased to the "up" position. If you also want to get into more nitty gritty, if that does not work. There are brushes in the motor that can be replaced. ( I do not know the part #). I have seen the regulator advertised for around $122.00. So there are your choices.

Thanks to all for the reply. The demons seemed to have left the window mechanism. It has been running smoothly. I resiliconed the rubber gasket (I know it'll ruin the rubber by the time I'm dead but...) and it has been running the full cycle with ease. Special thanks for the directions from Goatwater's various posts. Haynes beware, this guy's good!
