Wink Laser Idling Problem

I need help. I have a 1992 Plymouth Laser RS. This started happening this week. Everytime the car is at a standstill it stalls. Even if I put the car in neutral, it still stalls out. It stalls out when it's parked and when you stop a traffic light. I've had it at a mechanic and he says it is the AIC motor (stepper motor). I have never heard of this part! I have looked all over the web for this part for my car, but can't find it. Is there such a part for this car? Or is the problem something else??? Any and all help appreciated.

Yas

Re: Laser Idling Problem

Check for an ISC instead. Also check out some DSM forums like www.dsmtuners.com , but remember to search for the answers to your questions before posting a thread.

Smile stalling

The AIS (Air Idle Solenoid) is located on the side of the throttle body. The job of this part is to regulate the amount of air that bypasses the throttle plate to control idle speed. If it is only dirty, which is common, then it can be removed and cleaned with an aerosol carburetor cleaner. If the part is defective and needs replacing then you would be better off getting a new one.
The term ISC (Idle Speed Control) is not used with Chrysler vehicles.

Re: Laser Idling Problem

Though I appreciate your knowledge of terminology, you are incorrect.

The Plymouth Laser wasn't built by Chrysler, and ISC is the correct term, and will aid him in his searching.

The second link is quite useful.

Re: Laser Idling Problem

True, the laser is jap scrap, assembled in texas. and its not as if there are enough acronyms for the same part in the industry for each manufacturer. sheesh. try asking the chrysler parts guy for an ISC and he'll look more confused than normal.

Re: Laser Idling Problem

It was assembled in Normal Illinois along with the Eclipse and Talon.

I HATE dealer parts counters. I asked for a BISS screw and was quoted 800 dollars "because it isn't available without buying the whole intake manifold".

Cost 1.99 at a "in the know" Mitsu dealer.
