Question Worst Accident?

Ok, we've already done the fastest people have gone and a bunch of other fun things. But what about the not so fun part of driving, accidents. So lets hear some stories, whats your worst accident?

For me i was a passenger while my cousin was driving my aunts van. A 94 Dodge Caravan, basscially 5000lbs of solid iron So we were just driving around after dropping off some friends at a party, there were three of us left in the car. My cousin driving, me in the passenger seat and our friend Brad in the middle seat right next to the sliding door.

We came to a 4 way intersection with like 3 lanes in each direction. We wanted to to turn so we could head to wendy's for some food. We come to the intersection, get into the turning lane behind another car thats already started rolling thru the turn. The arrows still green so we follow. Just as we passed under the lights in the middle of the intersection the arrow went off. We were already half way though the turn, then next thing i hear is tires screeching like we're at the strip or something. I look towards the sound to see whats going on, maybe a street race in the lanes next to us, then all i see is a blur of white and red coming straight for the van. Then it hits, spins the van a full 3/4 around, slams us into a buick lasabre's ass end, which we totaled! nothing left from the back seats to the back bumper(which were in about the same spot at this point).

He hit us in the right rear quarter panel, on the right rear tire Smashed up the door, bent the axle, shattered a window, just totalled the Van.

What was it that hit us? Some dumbass kid in a frickin POS late 80's trans am. Ok, before i continue i'll give you a short run down of Newfoundlands driving laws. First, you can get your permit at 16, take a written test, pay a fee and it's yours. That lets you practice with an experienced driver over 25 i the passenger seat and no one else in the car. You need to have that for a year, then you can apply for your road test where an instructor takes you out on the rods and does the standard road test. You pass that and you get your license. But even then you can only drive from like 6am to like 12pm, and there are other restricions for a year or more.

The kid that hit us was 15, no permit, no license, driving his uncles car that his parents had agreed to buy from his uncle to give to hin on his 17th birthday when he got his license. They left it in the diveway with the keys in the house when they left him at home alone while they went on vacation. What happened was he stopped at the intersection, saw there was a red light and waited. Now when the red goes out a second later it goes amber for about 5 seconds or so, then changes to green, just like all lights. This dumbass saw the red go out, didn't wait for the amber, or even the green, thinking, "ok, it's not red, i can go now." doesn't even look up to see if it's clear, revs the engine and waps it into gear, the car shot out and hit us. Then the dumbass left the scene of the accident to go home and get some id or something.

So, anyone got anything to top that?

Well I have a few, maybe they won't top that;

1. While driving my 87 LeBaron Turbo I was pulling out of a Taco Time in Layton, UT. It is right next to a hill, and I check to make sure it si clear. Well just as I pull out I hear a screaming engine, look to the left just in time to see a Toyota truck coming right at me, he didn;t even hit his brakes and nailed me on the passanger side. The impact caused my car to roll and slide on the roof for about fifty feet or so.

Turns out this guy had run a red light and hit me going about 65+ MPH. Why didn't he see the red light or me? Becuase he was petting his DAMN DOG. And how do I know he ran a red light? Because a cop was following him to give him a ticket for it.

Anyhow the entire passenger side of my LeBaron was gone.

I know, I bet I would have been injured very badly or possibly killed. Good think the cop was right behind him though.

Nothin like those sturdy domestic frames eh?

really though man, you were LUCKY on that one

ive never been in an accident thank goodness, but ive had more than enough close-calls.......one involved a 240sx that i had to swerve into the oncoming lane on a two lane road because he decides to pull out in front of me when we were REALLY close, glad to have those anti-lock brakes........anyway, i wanted to rip him out of his car....beat him to the ground.....then make his car my own

My worst accident was one I am still trying to piece together what happened, it was the 28th of December I was driving down to Dunedin from Christchurch, I must have been going about 120 kph in my beloved Audi 80, well apparantley a milk truck came out from a sideroad that led to a farm, I knowing me, would have tried to avoid it, and from the photos I saw the left front qauter struck the truck and caused a chain reaction along the whole left side- I was taken by ambulance to Christchurch hospital where I was for a week (And New Years ) had New Zealanders not driven on the right hand side of the road I would have been killed

Not my accident, but my mom was in this one.

Back in the 70's my mom owned a Cvcc, tiny ass thingy from Honda. She was driving home from her work as a nurse in Los Angeles. She left the freeway and was comeing down the offramp when a truck jumped the side of the freeway and came down onto the offramp in front of her. She slammed on her brakes but couldnt stop fast enough to avoid hitting the truck. She was ok, the car was a total. The guy in the truck had been drinking, and luckily my mom was a nurse and could help him with his injuries.

Apparently he had been doing about 90 when he hit the wall of the freeway.

k i got 2 good ones, my 86 1/2 nissan pickup was t-boned by and explorer doing 55, the woman driving had a warrant for her arrest. hte other i was sliding my old pontiac around some dirt roads at night, hit a patch of really loose stuff, spun 180 degrees, flipped upside down, slip about 100 feet in a muddy ditch about 4 feet deep. then stopped. i called my dad and he flipped my car back over and after refilling it with oil it was driving like always, couldnt say it looked like always though, with the 3 inch lower roof. i was lucky i didnt get a scratch in either. the my 93 civic was backed into 2 times, by a 3/4 ton dodge truck and by a range rover, aparrantly people in big things cant see civics behind them so beware. little touch up paint on the rubbermaid bumper and good as new both times. then a kid without a lisence backed into my 2002 impreza in an 87 or so corolla like a week after i got it i about killed him, again a little touch up paint good as new.

about the saddest accident i have heard of was my friend's story. Hi sparent's just bought him a 01 eclipse. he was driving home from an airport in the evening with his mother in the passenger seat, and since they were both jetlagged he fell asleep at the wheel. he hit a rock, rolled, and totalled the car. His mother wasn't insured yet so no coverage. So after a brand new eclipse was driven three times and then totalled with no insurance. They were both fine on an upnote though.

Cripes I never thought of jet-lag as an accident-causing factor
