Hello All,
I could really use some help. I will give me problem story about my 2002 Jetta Wagon 1.8T December 2003 my brake light in the dash came on and chimed. Cruise then stopped working. I stopped the car, shut it off, turned it back on, and everything was fine. Mid February my cruise stopped working. When I stepped on the brake the cruise light came on, took my foot off of the brake, and it went off. Completely backwards. Late February driving long distance my brake light came back on in the middle of driving and start to chime. It now chimes every time I go from a dead stop and accelerate over 10 MPH. It chimes for 5 minutes and then stops until I come to a complete stop. It then starts up again. It driving me F***ing goofy!!! Also my cruise does not work at all. I brought the car to the dealership, no luck. I then put it on a VAG, and got no codes relating to the brake system. I heard through a friend that the wheel speed sensors go bad in our harsh winters. I tried replacing all of them, no luck. I had an aftermarket automatic car starter. I had it uninstalled, no change. I think that there may be a short in the wiring somewhere, but I am not sure. I have 58,000 miles, and so I am out of warranty. I called VW of America about helping, and they said that they couldn't help until I had a diagnostic done on it, which I already have done TWICE. I am sorry for the long email, but I would REALLY appreciate any help. If you could email me your response, I would really be grateful. Thanks, Justin Morabito [email protected] |

Re: Brake Chime driving me NUTS!!!
The brake "switch" actually has a vacuum vent for the cruise. These seem to be a common failure as they will not fully close some of the time causing erratic operation. I've heard of people removing & having limited sucess w/repairing. Most will get replaced eventually.

Hello Boschmann,
Thanks for the reply. Would that also possibly cause the brake light chiming? Thanks, Justin Quote:

Re: Brake Chime driving me NUTS!!!
I've not heard much on that symptom before. You might try at this site, they seem pretty knowledgable an the later models.
