Question I have a door question....

Hi

I am having a problem I can not figure out myself. So I'm hoping someone can help me out. I have a 1990 Honda Accord LX 2 door coupe 5 speed MT 4 banger.

The problem is a few days ago I got out of my car and now my drivers door will not open. I have the inside pannel open and can see inside the door. I can not for the life of me figure out how to get this door to open. I have tried numerous ideas from trying to trip the inner latch to prying (to a certain extent I don't want to ruin the paint) Does anyone know of a trick to open the door? Or can anyone please give me some direction? I have only ever worked on the engine/ transmission/mechanics of a car I have never dabbled into the mechanics of the inside of the doors.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: I have a door question....

I had this happen on a 1990 Accord four door. I regret to inform you that in my case it was extremely serious. Maybe other people here can figure out a way around it.

I eventually pried out of Honda a sheet of paper describing a known defect wherein a small metal pin in the locking mechanism was failing at an unexpectedly high rate. There was a very complex procedure involved in trying to extract the pin so that the door could be open and the mechanism replaced.

I foolishly gave this document to a local garage guy in order to try and avoid a $400 charge from the dealer. The guy did a hack job and ended up taking a torch to the door. Not a happy ending.

I don't know where that document is, but Honda does know about this problem.

I have a same door problem with my Honda accord 90. Where did you get the "Honda a sheet of paper" from? I managed to open the door panels on closed door and not able to figure it out the door mechinism.

It was many years ago when I had this problem. I bothered Honda's regional office a lot until they coughed up the document. They know about it. It's a defect.
