Help with Paint??

I'm thinking about getting my car re-painted this summer and being a student and all money is a key thing. I was considering doing the sanding and prepping myself to reduce the cost seeing that is what your mostly charged for when u take it to the body shop. Thing is i'm kinda worried about messing something up if i don't do it right and what not, so i was wondering if anyone had any advice or links to websites that may help me out. I quite good at stuff like this just by nature so i'm sure it wouldn't be hard if i had something to go by but i'm just having touble finding it. Another questions is, if i did do all the prep myself then took it to the shop and something was not right they can always fix my little problems can they not? that being that there not extrememly bad. Any help would be appreciated thanks !

one tip from experience - be sure to choose a sandable primer. Mine wasnt and the poor primer clogged the sandpaper quickly - i never did this before, not too hard to sand rust and dents, fill em and prime. some sites http://www.cobralads.com/butcher32.html

You may want to check with the body shops that you are considering first. They may have some stipulation in their warranty that is negated by using your own primer or prepping yourself. You wouldnt want to have an issue later with the paint job and then have them tell you that it's the primer you used or something. IMHO I think it may be worth the extra couple hundred to let them be fully liable for the paint job just in case.
