New to the Domestics

Hi im new to the domestic scene and ive gotten rid of my crx, because i finished my projects for it, so now here i am sitting at my comp typing away to see if there were any facts/tips you could give me on my s-10. I have a current project due for my s-10 and it will be swapping in the 383 stroker OR if i have the time i would get a 350 bigblock (i think they make a big block.) and bore it out to a 355 or even gor for the full 60. So really im just asking for help if i have further questions about my s-10, and right now im asking for facts and opinions...

350 is a small block. 383 stroker is a 350 block bored 30 over with a 400 crank. Anything more than a 400 usually is a small block. I said usually because there are recastings that actually make a 454 cubic small block and the other week on Horsepower TV they built up a 500+ small block(very expensive to do but it would tuck nicely). I would not bore more than 30 over even though I know it has been done often. It leaves room for more later down the road. If you go to much the cylinder walls become weak, especially if you plan to run NOS. I have a 383 in my 89 S-10 X-cab and it is tight. A friend did put a 454 big block in his, however fender wells and firewall cutting was required. Pick up this JTR manual if you haven't started. It will give you an idea whats required.

Hope that helps, enjoy the build up....

yea i would not go 60 over unless you have to, cause if you damage the cylinder walls the blocks trashed, if you go 383 machining will be required to fit the 400 crank, it will cost around 300 to 400 bucks just to prepare the block
