Rearend

Hey I had a question about rearends last weekend I tried to get my axles out to put some better studs in them for the wheels, but I could not get the axles out!.....looks like someone put a Detroit Locker differential in the rear and I don't have a clue as to how to get it out!.....I can't tell if it's welded in there or what because I've never actually seen one.....so I am on hold for now until I do some studying on this. Has anyone ever seen this or have any idea how to get it out?

i'm not too familiar with detroit lockers, but in any event the axles are or should be held in with C-clips. you just need to figure out how to get the axles to push in. in a regular spider gear assembly rear differential, you take the bolt out that holds in the pinion shaft. i'm assuming there's still something between the axles that keeps them from moving in towards each other, and letting the clips fall off.

Re: Rearend

It should just be a matter of removing the spring assy, getting the pinion gear out and pressing the axles to the center and removing the clips. My buddy at work has a detroit locker set up in his jeep, I'll talk to him tomorrow.
