It Seems to me thats it time to buy an airbrush.

I don't want like a top of the line model just somthing that will that put the paint on the model in a neat fashion, and has decent reliability.

I have a pretty nice Paasche double action VL airbrush. I had to buy a seperate air compressor for it. This was back when I was making some good bucks.

OTOH the propellent cans Dan was talking about might be a good option.

Could Paasche work with Testors propellant cans? I know Paasche have some cheap-to-moderate airbrushes ($40-$60) but compressor itself is the most expensive component. I use Testors propellant for 10 bucks and it's great stuff!

It's VERY cheap ($29) and good for starter. You can throw it to garbage can and don't worry about money if you don't like it

I recommend thinning the paint before hand, if you don't it goes on a bit thick.

Or if it's suction feed you won't get any paint coming out at all.

Airbrush info

Don't mess with a compressor, too noisy and can create moisture in your line so you need a water trapping filter. The propellant cans are OK but they tend to freeze up during use and can run out of air at the worst time and they get very expensive.
I've learned through experience that the best set-up for airbrushing is to use compressed nitrogen! You can get a 10lb. tank at any industrial gas dealer and it will last forever! The intial purchase will cost around $250.00 with a regulator and I can paint 15-25 models on one fill-up! Refills are only $20.00 and the pressure can be regulated extremely well. The best part is for those of us in humid areas, it won't carry any water vapor!! I can paint in relatively high humidity without any fish-eyes or orange peel.
Using an airbrush properly is an acquired skill. It doesn't take long to master one if you are patient and it will open up many new options for paints and different finishes. Get the book "The Modelers Guide to Scale Automotive Finishes" by Pat Covert, it goes into terrific detail about maximizing your capabilities really quick!
If this is a little too expensive for your budget right now make sure you get the new "Scale Auto" magazine this month! The same author has an article on spray can painting for dynamite finishes. I know the author and have seen his work in person many times, he's a great painter no matter what he's using!!

Damn nice idea. I've already got a compressor however so I'd just be inclined to buy a vapor trap. It's not that loud. My girlfriend can talk on the phone in the same room while i used it. The compressor that is.

For any car modeler I strongly recommend Tamiya Spray Work Basic. Good enough and I'm using it too.

It include the pump and single action airbrush in one set.
I had try many expensive airbrush but I still think that simple one is nice and user friendly.(Anyway, I think the Tamiya HG airbrush is best one!)

I'm using the old Spray Work Basic (I call it SW1)and it's too noise. However, Tamiya had a new SW and the noise were GREATLY reduced.
I had MP3s of their noise comparison. Email me if you're interest!

P.S. I'm not a staff from Tamiya but please think of it! :hehe:
