90 DX "cLunk"???

I just got back from a morning out in the girlfriends 90 DX 4dr and I notice that when the car shifted (automatic) that there was an audible "clunk" that you could 'feel' and hear. I know this is something bad...can someone help me out? What is this..where do I begin? Thanks.

first, how much time has pased since the tranny fluid was changed? if its been a while change it now! this will probably decrease the "clunk" but not make it go away. try it out. and flush the tranny.

No idea...she just bought the car a couple of months ago....I'll do that and see what happens...anyone else have any thoughts?
