ABS and emergency brake lights

I have noticed lately that when I start my car and start to drive the ABS and emergency brake lights come on and stay on until I shut the car off and then restart it. Does anyone know what this could mean????

Re: ABS and emergency brake lights

I have a problem with ABS, Low Trac, SES, SVS, lights popping on. Dealership said it is a speed sensor within the Wheel Bearing / Assembly problem. Not sure if it is related to your troubles.

Re: ABS and emergency brake lights

If you are getting the ABS light in conjunction with Trac and SES/SVS that is normally the case.

GM Hub/Bearing with ABS Wheel Sensor.

But in the case of the first poster it sounds more like an ABS control or hydraulic braking system failure. Best thing to do is get it scanned with an ABS capable scanner and get the error codes. Also, a scanner will tell you which out of the 4 wheel sensors are bad. Plus it is a good idea to check the wiring to each sensor and the electrical connector.

Re: ABS and emergency brake lights

I had the same SVS Trac and abs lights. The mechanic that I went to actually avoided doing the full repair, and managed to repair a torn wire in the existing unit. This I imagine is typical of the damage done, and could save money for people if your mechanic knows what he is doing.

Which hub/bearing was replaced? The hub/bearing has the wheel sensor. What brand was used? Some aftermarket units leave a lot to be desired and may fail prematurely.

Re: ABS and emergency brake lights

It was the front passanger side that was replaced. I am not sure what brand they used though.

In your case it could be the hub but it sounds like you may have other problems related to the ABS braking system. I didn't see if you had a trac light or SES or SVS with the ABS warning light.

The combination of ABS and the emergency brake light doesn't seem consistent with another bad hub. You could get it scanned with an ABS capable scanner to see what GM ABS/Chassis codes are stored triggering the lights.
