New legacy, need suggestions
I'm getting a 98 legacy GT next week, and need some ideas. I'm on a tight budget, so I can only do a few things. First, I plan on getting a tint, but after that I want to spend money on performance products, but am unsure what to get. Are there any impreza parts that fit legacys? Also, is it even worth it to spend 500-600 dollars on an intake and exhaust system? I'm in high school, so if I do anything it will be most of my money, but its not like I need money for much else.

Re: New legacy, need suggestions
Hi. Great car! When I first got my 96 GTB BG5 legacy wagon I had the exhaust changed from the original exhuast to a Jamis (can't remember the exact spelling, sorry) Megaphone system. Great sound. I would get lighter wheels and tires...if you can afford them. The original wheels are a bit on the heavy side. If your car is in great to fair condition I would reccomend the wheels. Is this a turbo car?

I found that it was worth it to spend money on an intake and exhaust, as long as they're both done. I got my intake from Rallitek and it was around $170-180 shipped to my door. I have a ractive muffler and a high flow cat...you could get away with cutting off the second cat and the resonator though. That got me a decent 2-4mpg on gas and a little more power. I also like the sound of an exhaust on a scoob...different than any other 4 cylinder I've heard. If you're into interior customizeation, I'd go for some of that. Some paint on the hard plastic parts and you'll get a nice touch inside (see my website in my signature). It doesn't cost much either.

My brother got in trouble a few days before we were gonna get it, but my dad's looking again. The only problem is he's mainly looking at Legacy L's instead of 2.5 GT's, since our mechanic and a local used dealer said they see more engine problems with the ej25 than the ej22. Is there any truth to this? From everything I've heard, subaru engines last forever. Have you guys had any engine problems?
TombStone-It isn't turbo Diesel-I really like the paint you did. Was it just the silver, or did you do other parts? What type of paint would you recommend? |

If I recall correctly, the EJ25 has problems with blown head gaskets. Not sure though.
I only used that silver paint on the hard plastic parts of my dash. I took them out, sanded them lightly and washed them really well with some dish soap. Then I sprayed them with Automotive primer (black since I was painting them silver), then with silver, then with a clear, allowing ample drying time between coats. I then polished and waxed everything. I used Duplicolor for primer, color, and clear. Just make sure you allow them to dry for about 2-3 days before putting them back in so that the pieces have plenty of time to dry...the car can be driven without the parts and it won't hurt anything.
