Re: What kind of hp #'s with what mods?
The most important thing you have to remember is $Budget$ what you are looking to build? Turbo ? N/A? Road Racer? Drag Racer? etc, you have to know this stuff first hand! And most importantly you have to know what car you want. I think anybody here would recomend buying a 4th gen becuase they are really good cars for projects. You can basically drop any engine in them, and there are an abundant number of mods. So I really recomend that you get your game plan setup first.

10K should be way more than enough...especially if you get a 4th gen Civc/CRX this car is perfect for what you want. It is a perfect platform for DRAG, and a extremely good platform for RoadRacing. If you plan on TurboCharging than I would definately go with a LS/VTEC. Why? Becuase it provides Awesome power for the Drag platform and for the RoadRace Platform. Like I said 10K should be suffecient for what you want to do. And I really recomend that you get a HatchBack or CRX which ever you pick will be a good choice. If you have anyquestions just post them |

Re: What kind of hp #'s with what mods?
how much $$ would it take to get a 2nd gen crx and swap in the ls/vtec? also how much would it take to build the internals on the engine and turbo it? and how much boost could i run producing how much power?

Re: What kind of hp #'s with what mods?
These numbers are not going to be exact but somewhat similar...ok!
CRX = $800-1200 depending on condition... LS Block = $200-300 VTEC Head = $300 - 500 Tranny = $300 - 500 Misc..Parts = $600 - 700 Bottom end build = $1000+ depending on what pistons and how much work you want to it... Head Job = $700 - 1000 + same as block Turbo Kit = $2500+ Dyno Tunning @ $100 Hr. 400+ HP at the wheels PRICELESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is more to this of course, like labor and paying someone to wire up the car. but like i said 10K should be more than enough. Go talk to you one of your local shops. or call JG Engine Dynamics!! http://www.jgenginedynamics.com they have some awesome Engines |

91 CRX DX = $1,100 B20 Block $250 B16 Head $300 Pistons $600 Arias 11.5:1 (Compression) Blueprint and balanced bottom end $1100 Port head, valve job, and mill head $1200 Mounts and linkage<---$350 (you got ripped off) LSD Tranny $560 Wiring $100 Type-R Header $450 Type-R Cams $300 Toda Cam Gears $250 Skunk2 Coilovers $250 Strut Brace's Front lower and upper - Rear Lower and upper $80 for the whole kit MSD CAP $40 MSD Coil $35 MSD Ignition $110 <----that was a hook up so far $7,075 and the car ran a 13.2 on it's first ever run without any tunning... You know what I'm going to stop there becuase I can see you have been had...you have been overpaying for alot of shit that you dont need on your car. You are paying alot of money for stuff you can get cheaper... |

I live in the Bay Area of CA. I don't know where to find a B20 block for that cheap. www.hmotorsonline.com has it for $749 and so does www.totalboost.com. It comes with the intake & exhasut manifolds, distributor, fuel rail, alternator, throttle body. I wasn't planning on a CRVTEC combo, but I may. I was just going to reinforce the block and boost it. Can you tell us how to find these mods for so cheap? |

Re: What kind of hp #'s with what mods?
I'm sorry I didnt understood you the first time...I thought that was all the stuff you had gotten already. Look first off if you are looking into building your motor do that dont worry about your other stuff like suspension. Dont get me wrong it is just as important, but get the motor done first. Since I live in Los Angeles, there is a lot of competition amungts the the local shop that's why the prices are low (compared to other places) But anyway dont just go to one shop. I found my B20 Block on Ebay...and the B16 head as well go to the junkyards you dont necesarly have to buy a whole engine if you are going to do CRVtech becuase you are going to have to rebuild anyway so just look for the complete BOTTOM end! and start there.

Re: What kind of hp #'s with what mods?
If your going to go turbo wouldn't just the ls swap (without vtec...b18b) be better cuz of the lower compression without the vtec? Also you're gonna wanna spend some of that money on suspension if you're looking at road racing. Suspension components are not cheap by any means either.
